The first match of this year’s edition of The Atlantic Cup showed us a Danish team that took command from the start. Tromsø, the northernmost team to ever participate in the tournament, was pushed back on the field, and after a weak intervention from goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard, Randers took the lead through Mohamed Toure after 18 minutes. Ten minutes later, Tromsø’s Danish last line of defense had no chance against Oliver Olsen’s brilliant header. Randers was the better team in the first half, but Tromsø started to come into the game more as time went on, with David Edvardsson hitting the crossbar from a free kick, and both Daniel Braut and Jens Hjertø-Dahl having good shot attempts. Both teams made many substitutions in the second half, and both created chances, with Randers having the biggest ones. It was also the Danes who scored again when Musa Touré was gifted the evening’s third goal seven minutes before the end. Randers substituted their goalkeeper two minutes before full-time, but without holding him responsible, Tromsø scored twice with decisive finishes from last year’s top scorer Camoes and the new signing Jesper Grundt. After the match, the coaches of both teams were quite pleased with their team’s performances.
