Brøndby wins The Atlantic Cup 2025
Before the match, it was clear that with a victory over Rosenborg, Värnamo would take the trophy home to Sweden as winners of The Atlantic Cup 2025. All other results would lead to tournament victory for Brøndby. The Norwegian team got off to the best start, but it didn’t take many minutes before Värnmo started to controle the game. and most of the play took place in Rosenborg’s half of the pitch. The Swedes created several good opportunities and about half an hour into the match it was almost a miracle that Mohammad Alkaskadi did not score, the first on a half volley was masterfully saved by Rasmus Sandberg, and the second chance a minute later was blocked. It was a half that was characterized by a number of late tough tackles and the temperature was high both on the pitch and on the touchline. Referee Flavio Jesus set the bar high but could have handed out a few yellow cards earlier in the half.
Rosenborg got off to a much better start in the second half, and dominated after the break. The changes made them better and better the longer the match went on. 20 minutes before full time, Sverre Nypan came on to the pitch for his first match minutes here in the Algarve. When Rosenborg arrived, he was in England in talks with clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester City, but the youngster chose to stay in Rosenborg for a while longer. Now he was able to take part in a good end to the last match of the tournament. It ended 0-0 despite several good opportunities for the Norwegians. Rosenborg won the penalty shootout 4-1. and the great hero was goalkeeper Rasmus Sandberg who saved two of Värnamo’s penalties, he was only outmaneuvered by Ajdin Zeljkovic. Rosenborg scored on all four of their penalties, Dino Islamovic, Marius Broholm, Moustafa Zeidan, and Iver Fossum with the last kick of the year in The Atlantic Cup 2025 ensured that. See you next year.
