Örebro are in the final of The Atlantic Cup after a hard fought 2-1 victory against Brøndby. Karl Holmberg decided the game with a beautiful chip.

Örebro and Brøndby teamed up for this week’s first game in The Atlantic Cup. With Brøndby winning their first game and Örebro picking up two points after a successful penalty shoot-out in their fixture against FC Midtjylland it was a group final we had on our hands.

Both teams had a lot of changes in their teams with Brøndby fielding almost an entirely new team. Only Lebogang Phiri, Dario Dumic and Christian Nørgaard made the team again. Örebro had six new faces in their team.

With Andrew Hjulsager and Riza Durmisi on the left, this is where Brøndby created the most problems for Örebro in the beginning of the game. First major chance came after an Örebro mistake which saw Paraguay striker Ariel Nuñez hitting the bar from the distance.

It was Örebro who took the lead after 13 minutes of play when a shot from Sebastian Ring took a deflection and left Michael Falkesgaard stranded between the sticks. The lead how ever only lasted seven minutes. The big Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjonsson pounced after a ball fell for him in the box.

After 30 minutes Sebastian Ring had a great opportunity to restore the lead but the Swede squandered the open chance almost passing the ball right in to Falkesgaard’s hands.

The next open chance also fell for Örebro and this time there was no messing about. With a sublime chip Karl Holmberg lifted the ball up and over Michael Falkesgaard and into the net. Superb skill from the Swede which sent Örebro on the way to the final.

Brøndby and Örebro signed a new player each yesterday. Örebro signed Icelandic Logi Valgardsson and Brøndby signed Swedish Johan Larsson. Only Valgardsson was fielded today as he come on in the second half. With Örebro holding out for the win Valgardsson got off to a good start with his new team.

The victory also sees Örebro booking a place in the final of The Atlantic Cup 2015.
